Abstract
The course aims to improve writing skills in producing papers, reports and coursework in English. The focus will be on how to write more accurately, more fluently and with appropriate style. We will cover such topics as:- the writing process, eg summary writing, planning,- the elements of writing, eg developing arguments, cohesion- accuracy in writing, eg reviewing common student errors.
Content
The course will cover such topics as: • the writing process, including summary writing, paraphrasing, avoiding plagiarism and planning essays; • the elements of writing, including developing arguments, cohesion, opening paragraphs and referencing; • accuracy in writing, which will include review of common grammatical and syntactical errors in students’ writing, and • writing models, which will examine the different writing formats that students are required to know and use.

Lecture Notes
Course materials will be provided by the teacher. You will be asked to pay Sfr10 to cover the cost of photocopies. Participants will be asked to provide a recent sample of their written English before the course starts.
