Abstract

Concepts, methods and techniques to apply computerbased techniques in the architectural design, in communication and in the visualization of information

Content

This course will provide a theoretical and practical introduction to Information Architecture. Inspired by built and virtual examples, we will discuss the consequences when information space and physical architecture are merged. You will receive an introduction to a next generation design process of architects and to theoretical concepts in the transition of information management. You will also learn about emerging academic fields such as Knowledge Visualization and simulation for architects. The ten lectures will be highly interactive and discuss case studies and new techniques. Within your group project the new simulation tool ‚CityEngine‘ provides a real insight into designing urban patterns for ‚future cities‘. Original projects can be developed further into a thesis elective. Apart from learning about and experiencing Information Architecture, the course will also introduce you to research and management skills that will distinguish the future trained ETH-Architect. Therefore, the course Information Architecture will have an impact on your career, both inside and outside of the discipline of architecture.
