Abstract
Deeper look to the special behaviour of thermoplastic, thermosets, elastomers and the thermoplastic-elastomers materials in civil engineering
Objective
Based on the elementary knowledge about polymer materials a deeper look to the special behaviour of thermoplastic, thermosets, elastomers and the thermoplastic-elastomers materials will be made with regard to main civil engineering applications. Special attention will be given to the compatibility with other materials, to short-term and long-term performance. This will facilitate the material selection process.
Content
In addition to the fundamentals, examples of typical applications in civil engineering constructions and experiences will be. Particularly, plastic pipe systems, water-proofing systems, rubber bearings, cellular plastics, reinforced plastics as well as polymer concretes and concrete coatings are the main topics. By a practical project the student will also learn to use and apply information from literature. Some testing techniques and trips to relevant production sites support the understanding for the processing and its influence to the final product properties.
