Abstract
Fourier and Wavelet Analysis, Data Compression, and Compressive Sampling
Content
Since their original discovery in mid 80s in the processing of seismic data, wavelet transforms have become indispensable tools in engineering (signal and image processing and denoising, A/D conversion, MP-3, etc.), as well as in mathematics (harmonic analysis, function spaces, etc.), generalizing the classical Fourier transform methods. This (pro) seminar will allow students in the 3rd semester a first look at this fascinating and very lively area of applied and computational mathematics; you will need background from analysis and linear algebra as well as some numerical methods for it.
