Abstract
CONTENTS: stochastic, equilibrium and evolutionary models of company growth; elaboration of models explaining recent empirical findings on productivity and industry dynamics
Objective
Based in different modelling approaches, this lecture delivers a quantitative understanding of the aggregate dynamics of companies. It discusses different models of company growth as well as approaches regarding productivity and industry development.
Content
The lecture covers the dynamics of companies through quantitative methods. In doing so, its focus lies with the dynamics of firm aggregates rather than individual enterprises. The first part of the lecture reviews stochastic, equilibrium and evolutionary models of company growth. Alongside the analytical description of firm growth dynamics, a comparison with real data is provided. In the second part of the lecture, models focussing on recent empirical findings regarding productivity dynamics and the industry life cycle.
