Abstract
Introduction into the different components of the Cryosphere: Snow, glaciers, sea ice and permafrost, and their roles in the climate system. Each part is use to emphasized on one specific physical aspect: material qualities of snow, mass balance and dynamics of glaciers, energy balance of sea ice, heat conduction in permafrost.
Objective
Overwiev of the most important components of the cryosphere and the relevant processes defining the physical state of the components.

In the autumn semester, primarliy core courses from the entire BSc-program "Earth Sciences" should be chosen.
