Abstract
Treatment of energy conversion processes of technological relevance, which are not based on the heat-power-conversion. The phenomena which are discussed in are mainly based on effects happening at phase boundaries. In the second part an overview is given on the possible applications in energy technology, the special properties of such systems as well as their possibilities and limits are shown.
Objective
Treatment of all energy conversion processes of technological relevance, which are not based on the heat-power-conversion. The phenomena which are discussed in this course are mainly based on effects happening at phase boundaries and properties of solid state matter. In the second part an overview is given on the possible applications in energy technology, the special properties of such systems as well as their possibilities and limits are shown.
Content
Part 1: Basics: Introduction; thermodynamic optimization of energy conversion systems with respect to energy and economy; thermodynamics of multi-component-systems (mixtures) and phase equilibria, potentials of interaction; introduction to electro-chemistry, the apperance of Galvani-potentials, dynamic effects at phase boundaries. Part 2: applications: electrochemical cells as batteries accumulators and fuel cells; energy storage in form of hydrogen, Magneto-Hydrodynamic systems (MHD-generators).
