Abstract

Knowledge of modeling and requirements specification of information systems. Understanding management problems during the life cycle of information systems as project management, socio-technical approaches (questions of motivation and the autonomy in the use of IT-systems), request for proposal, evaluation and go live phase.

Objective

Knowledge of modeling and requirements specification of information systems. Understanding management problems during the life cycle of information systems as project management, socio-technical approach, request for proposal, evaluation and Go Live.

Content

In IT projects arizes always one question: Which is the appropriate methodology for systems analysis and systems design. Although in the past quite a number of systems methodologies have been developed - e.g. process oriented techniques (Flow charts, ARIS), function oriented approaches (structured analysis, Use Cases) or object models (e.g. UML) - still a rather high uncertainity concering the appropriate methodology can be determined in practice. Indeed every company or consulting group picks out a set of suitable methodologies (as none of the mentioned methodologies fulfills the practical requirements of a unified approach) and creates a proper framework. But there is a always a "model break" between e.g. process-oriented, function-oriented and object-oriented methodologies. This model break results in a weak communication between consultants, programmers and users. We will discuss the different models and present an integrated approach to position the different models. In the second part of the course the different task of an IT-project are desribed in detail: IT-business case, pre-study, IT-concept, request for proposal, evaluation, IT-contracts, business blue print, go live phase and IT-project management.
