Abstract

During this seminar we shall analyze outstanding articles published in journals on learning and instruction, thereby analyzing the implications of their results on the structure and arrangement of learning environments in schools. The discussion shall particularly focus on methodological aspects in research and their implications on everyday teaching.

Objective

The three main goals are: 1. to increase knowledge about the central recent findings and developments in the main fields of research on learning and instruction; 2. to convey the competence to remain informed on, to understand and evaluate new publications about research on learning and instruction so that their findings can be applied in teaching; 3. to explain the most important research and evaluation methods used in research on learning and instruction which are crucial for the understanding of research publications.

Content

The studies analyzed in the seminar investigate learning and teaching processes in the domains of mathematics and sciences. Additional articles focus on the main underlying cognitive processes and learning strategies observed independantly of the subject being taught.
