Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:18:34
Abstract
Successful plant breeding requires a sound knowledge of the biology and physiology of a crop, the necessary agronomic status that has to be attained and the genetics of a plant species. Furthermore the statistical and molecular tools to be implements have to be known. This knowledge will be dealt with in this course on chosen model crops of worldwide importance as well as for neglected crops.
Objective
At the end of the course the students are able to judge the potential and the limitations in crop improvement by traditional as well as by molecular methods. They can define for a model crop the requirements to obtain a breeding success for a well defined objective and they are able to defend their choice.
