Alternative Crops
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:18:34
Abstract
Few crops dominate the crop rotations because of their apparently superior adaptation to the (agricultural) environment and the suitability of their products. The dependence on just a few crops endangers food safety and is contradictory to biodiversity. Crops will be dealt which have a considerable potential to be integrated into temperate cropping systems because of specific adaptation properties
Objective
At the end of the course the students are able to judge the potential of alternative crops in comparison to major crops on the basis of biological and agronomic properties. They will be required to define such a potential for a specific crop.
