Stratigraphy and time
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:19:28
Abstract
Analytical methods and concepts for the construction of a geochronological framework, including biostratigraphy, radioisotopic dating, cosmogenic isotopes, stable isotope and geochemical correlation, paleomagnetic stratigraphy and low temperature thermochronology. Advance discussion of processes and rates which determine the stratigraphic record.
Objective
The course discusses methodologies for the construction of geochronological frameworks, but goes beyound applied chronometry by advancing the understanding of types and rates of geological processes, the causes of contiguous and disjunct stratigraphies, placing of discrete events in temporal order.
