VVZ CR n/a

Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:19:36

Abstract

The seminar provides an introduction to 20th-century landscape theory. Students will read texts and respond with critical commentary, view selected gardens, parks and landscapes, and develop a topic of their own, about which they will produce a final written paper.

Objective

This diploma elective is intended to give students with special interests the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the field of landscape architecture while providing them with guidance in scholarly research and writing in this area.

Content

Landscape is a concept that is constantly changing, depending on its cultural background. Numerous disciplinary definitions and many geographical, moral, aesthetic, economic, ecological, etc., viewpoints and points of reference overlap in landscape. Conceptual changes in ideas of landscape and nature are reflected in the landscape architecture of the 20th century. The critical discussion of 20th-century design approaches can suggest procedures and methods for today’s practice.
