Abstract
This course explains the architectural and statistical characteristics of plates and shells. Working with examples from the history of building techniques, we will analyse reference examples on the basis of simple statistical considerations and demonstrations. Pointers and rules for the design of suitable plates and shells are explained.

Pointers and rules for the design of suitable plates and shells are explained. Among others, plates, shells, folded plates and tension membranes, will be examined.
