Protein Structure Determination by X-ray Crystallography
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:18:47
Abstract
This course will guide the student through the main steps of the crystal structure determination of a protein. Students will crystallize a previously purified protein, collect X-ray diffraction data, and solve the structure using computational techniques. Approximately one third of the course will be spent at the lab bench or at the X-ray diffractometer, the rest at the computer.
Objective
The course aims at introducing the principles of protein X-ray crystallography to the students. The major steps include protein crystallization, crystal handling, X-ray data collection and processing, and structure determination as well as interpretation. After completing the course, students should have a general understanding of the process.
