Abstract

This course offers an introduction to molecular methods with filamentous fungi. The model system coprinopsis cinerea, a basidiomycete, will be used. Experiments addressing the biogenesis of the fungal cell wall will be performed, supported by lectures and literature studies.

Objective

It is the goal of this course to confront the sutudents with specific expereimental methods used for expereimental studies with filamentous fungi. the experiments performed during the course contribute to the understanding of the fungal life. In particular, the biogenesis of the fungal cell wall will be addressed. Lectures and the study of the relevant literature will provide additional information enabling the students to answer questions regarding central aspect of the fungal life form at the end of the course.
