Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:18:25
Abstract
The laboratory course "Molecular Ecology and Ecotoxicology" enables students to learn a number of state of the art methods which are commonly used in molecular ecology and ecotoxicology. The course includes brief lectures on the theoretical background and several hours of practical training in small groups. In addition, the students learn how to evaluate data and how to write reports.
Objective
Many molecular methods are very powerful to characterize biological structures and functions and the students should receive a professional training how to use these tools.
Content
The methods include DGGE, T-RFLP, qPCR, FISH etc. Each block consists of a lecture on the theoretical background followed by several hours of practical training.
Resources
Lecture Notes
Within the course the students do get handouts which describe the basic concepts of each method and the detailed protocols.
Literature
No particular book recommended.
