Environmental Fluid Dynamics II
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:19:25
Abstract
We give an overview of flow and transport phenomena in natural aquatic and atmospheric systems, covering porous media, rivers, straified water bodies (oceans and lakes) as well as the atmosphere. The systems are compared to each other to exemplify in which respects they differ, and in which they behave identical.
Objective
• to apply general conservation principles to environmental fluids of aquatic and atmospheric systems, • to understand specifics of various natural flow systems, • to use closed-form solutions and simple analysis tools for the characterization of flow and transport, • to review the fluid-mechanical properties of the most important systems of environmental fluid dynamics.
