Abstract

The lecture is concerned with the current changes in society and sport and gives an overview over the different topics and theories of the sociology of sport.

Objective

the lecture: - shows the different dimensions, functions and interconnections of sport in the current society. - introduces the main theories and models of the sociology of sport. - examines the extent to which sport is a mirror of society and the changes and differentiations occurring in sport. - sharpens one’s sociological view of sport on the basis of examples from newspapers, magazines and television.
