Abstract
This course provides an overview of the development of the international system and the central security challenges since the end of the Cold War. The focus of this course will be on security issues of the post 9/11 era: new risks, arcs of crises, security strategies and core actors will be presented during the course.
Objective
Participants should gain a solid understanding of current issues in international security policy.

Diese Veranstaltung stellt Fragen der internationalen Sicherheitspolitik zur Diskussion. Anhand aktueller Krisen und Konflikte werden der Charakter gegenwärtiger Risiken und Bedrohungen sowie die Herausforderungen für bedrohungsgerechte sicherheitspolitische Strategien und Instrumente behandelt. Zu den thematischen Schwerpunkten gehören globale Sicherheitsrisiken wie Terrorismus, Proliferation, organisierte Kriminalität und Migration, regionale Destabilisierungsprozesse auf dem Balkan, in Afrika und im erweiterten Nahen und Mittleren Osten sowie Strategien des Krisenmanagements, der Konfliktprävention und der Stabilisierung auf globaler, transatlantischer und europäischer Ebene.
