Abstract
The program comprises four subjects: design, history and theory, videoand media and urban nature. The focus is on design, which amounts to 50% of the scheduled time. In the other subjects, students deepen theirinsight into the scientific and theoretical aspects of landscapearchitecture and explore the creative use of media, especiallyvideo, for design.
Objective
- The capacity to produce innovative landscape design together with an understanding for spatial conceptualisation at a variety of scales - Improved knowledge of the theory and history of landscape architecture, including critical thinking - The ability to develop new techniques for representation and communication incorporating new media - A broader understanding of processes in urban nature and the influence of time as the fourth component of spatial design - Knowledge of contemporary techniques in landscape and garden design.
Content
Work with the video camera in the landscape will provide the opportunity to discover and to depict the landscape in movement and in time. Other activities will include the visualisation of landscapes to be designed in the course of the year. General skill in visual thinking will be fostered. Modules on the theory of perception and the analysis of the video images will provide proficiency in this domain. The video camera will become a “sketching tool” to record the site. The interpretation and evaluation of video images will show a participant’s sensitivity to a given landscape. In order to follow up different approaches, video projects will be discussed together with other labs projects throughout the course of the year.
