Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:19:35
Abstract
The program comprises four subjects: design, history and theory, videoand media and urban nature. The focus is on design, which amounts to 50% of the scheduled time. In the other subjects, students deepen theirinsight into the scientific and theoretical aspects of landscapearchitecture and explore the creative use of media, especiallyvideo, for design.
Objective
- The capacity to produce innovative landscape design together with an understanding for spatial conceptualisation at a variety of scales - Improved knowledge of the theory and history of landscape architecture, including critical thinking - The ability to develop new techniques for representation and communication incorporating new media - A broader understanding of processes in urban nature and the influence of time as the fourth component of spatial design - Knowledge of contemporary techniques in landscape and garden design.
Content
The teaching of design in landscape architecture combines heuristic, intuitive and creative methods.2 In the design laboratory examples, critical argumentation and comments will be used to guide each individual student through the design process. Questions will be formulated and orientations relevant to each scale investigated. Individual design projects will be developed on an existing site. Students will work in groups in the first semester and on individual projects in the second. Both individual and group discussions will be held weekly in a creative studio atmosphere. Design skills will be developed through sketches, models, pictures and other methods of representation. In each semester work in progress will be evaluated in two intermediate critiques and a final critique. The design studio will be conducted by an experienced landscape architect throughout the year to ensure that projects are feasible and practical. Student work will also be supervised at regular intervals by national and international experts and subjected to constructive criticism. 2 Girot, Ch., The Four Trace Concepts. In: Corner, J.
