Abstract
To familiarize with the intricacies of forest ecosystems in general and woody plants in particular; phenological and morphological aspects of trees and forest in spring and summer; bud break; leaf development, and flowering in the forest as a whole, on individual trees, and on individual twigs; characterization and identification of selected woody plants.
Objective
To familiarize with the intricacies of forest ecosystems in general and woody plants in particular by means of inquisitive in situ observation and subsequent interpretation.
Content
Brief virtual excursions followed by identical real excursions in the neighbourhood of ETH Hönggerberg; phenological and morphological aspects of trees and forest in spring and summer; bud break; leaf development, and flowering in the forest as a whole, on individual trees, and on individual twigs; characterization and identification of selected woody plants in both winter and summer aspects; identification of deadwood. Further topics on request.
