Abstract

Introduction to the history of water anomalies; representation of recent experiments and theoretical models

Objective

Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen's basic paper "Ueber die Konstitution des flüssigen Wassers" (1892). Structural extension at about 1930. Raman isosbests. Minimal thermodynamical two-state-theories. Heuristic introduction to metastability. Phenomenological theory of metastability. The discovery of metastable water anomalies in the eighties and the development of water research to big science in the nineties of the last century. The main theoretical alternatives.
