Models in Hydraulics
Wissenschaftliche Arbeitsmethoden
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:19:07
Abstract
This lecture includes (1) Scientific writing in water sciences, and (2) Hydraulic model techniques. The first part gives an insight in current technical paper writing. The bases of hydraulic modeling are presented in the second part. The similitude laws and their limitations are highlighted and discussed with examples relevant in hydraulic practice.
Objective
Possibilities and limitations of experimental and numerical modeling in hydraulic engineering, advantages of hybride modeling technique using a simultaneous application of the two former methods.
Content
Hydraulic modeling Model laws Dimensional analysis Limitations of hydraulic models Experimental methods Examples Numerical modeling Governing equations Accuarcy and stability of numerical models Examples of 1D and 2D models for one- and two-phase flows
