History of Architecture and Art VI
Architektur- und Kunstgeschichte VI
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:19:37
Abstract
Behind the curtain - Visions of domestic spaces from the Middle Ages to MTV
Objective
This course offers a profound and paradigmatic examination of a particular historical period, a personality or a specific topic from the area of the history of art and architecture.
Content
Architecture designs interiors, but painting and literature also create interiors using their own means. Typical contemporary views are reflected in designs, depictions and descriptions of this sort, so that both real and fictional interiors become witnesses to their period. However, interiors also represent surfaces onto which the expectations of their residents, who express themselves in their decorations and arrangements, are projected. The lecture-course addresses these issues connected with the mediation and imagination of rooms using certain outstanding examples, ranging from innovative pictorial conceptions in the 15th century to current trends in the mass media.
