Abstract
The field course "Microbial ecology"" enables students to learn a number of state of the art methods which are commonly used to study microbial structures and functions in natural habitats. The course includes lectures, field trips, trainig in the laboratory and a presentation of the data.
Objective
Characterization of microbial structures and functions in natural habitats by using state of the art molecular and chemical tools.
Content
The field course is taught in an alpine reseach station in Val Piora (TI). The methods to be addressed include DGGE, FISH, microsensors, etc. The students will also learn to take samples in aquatic and terrestrial systems.

Permission from lecturers required for all students.
Einwöchiger Blockkurs nach Ende des Sommersemesters 2007 in der alpinen Forschungsstation im Val Piora oberhalb Ambri, Tessin. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist beschränkt und die Anmeldung muss vor dem 15. April 2007 erfolgen. Der Kurs ist mit einer bescheidenen Gebühr für Unterkunft und Essen verbunden.
