Integrated Resource and Environmental Economics
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:05:29
Abstract
Integrated Resource and Environmental Economics (IREE) combines the study of different problems of environmental and natural resource economics and management by providing focused analyses of selected issues and their evaluation from an integrated perspective of environmental valuation, project appraisal, corporate responsibility and contribution to sustainable development.
Objective
The course aims at improving the understanding of environmental and resource economic principles and theories, and strengthening the students’ capabilities to conduct integrated analyses of selected problems in environmental and natural resource management and policy, linking source and sink problems from an integrated perspective. IREE particularly aims at integrating the analytical rigor of neoclassical economics with the system view of ecological economics and the assessment from both corporate and societal perspectives of sustainability and sustainable development.
Content
The course is organized around two distinct domains. The first covers selected topics of environmental and resource economics, such as forest and water resource management, fisheries, land use, nonpoint-source pollution, and climate change. The second domain encompasses, on the one hand, the cross-cutting themes of environmental valuation and project appraisal, and, on the other hand, corporate responsibility and sustainability.
