Abstract

In the module "Integrative Plant Sciences", which consists of the online course and seminar "Plant Response to Stress" (PRESS) and the colloquium "Challenges in Plant Sciences" , the focus lies on interdisciplinarity, ranging from molecular biology and biochemistry to ecosystem research, and an integrated understanding of plants in their environments.

Objective

An understanding of how plants cope with stress conditions from the molecular to the ecosystem level.

Content

The online lessons course PRESS (551-0207-00) offers students an interdisciplinary introduction to the field of plant responses to stress, integrating the approaches of molecular biology, plant physiology, and ecology. Students become familiar with the basics of research in plant sciences. The course contains several interactive and multimedia-based elements. The colloquium (551-0205-00) introduces Master’s students and graduate students to the variety of disciplines in plant sciences. At a kick-off meeting, professors give an impulse talk on different topics as an introduction to the broad research fields. Afterwards, students prepare and organize colloquia on different topics according to their interests, gaining expert knowledge as well as practice in discussion and presentation. The PRESS Seminar (551-0209-00) consolidates one relevant scientific topic of the online course PRESS. Students are requested to independently connect and integrate the acquired knowledge about plant stress research in student groups, focusing on one scientific approach per group.
