Abstract
Ecology of the most important lentic and lotic freshwater ecosystmes including springs, wetlands, riparian vegetation and groundwater.
Objective
Overview of aquatic ecosystems and their communities including morphological, behavioral and physiological adaptations of aquatic organisms. Overview of the most important criteria for determination of aquatic algae and invertebrates on the level of order /families.

Origin and properties of different aquatic ecosystems Physical phenomena in water and their impact to water organisms Chemical components of water and nutrient cycling Redox processes in water and the consequences for the communities population dynamics and driving forces for succession Distribution patterns and biodiversity including invasion of aliens Trophic structures and food chain regulations Concepts in Limnology (IDH, PEG- Model, River Continuum concept) Disturbance of aquatic ecosystems and restoration measures. excursions to lakes, rivers including River Danube. monitoring of habitats and aquatic communities: Determination of the most important orders and families of algae and aquatic invertebrates such as: Protozoa (Rhizopoda(Amoeba,Heliozoa) Ciliophora) Bryozoa Tentaculata), Nemathelminthes (Rotatoria, Gastrotricha), Oligochaeta, Crustacea (Isopoda, Amphipoda, Phyllopoda, Copepoda, Ostracoda), Insecta (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Odonata, Heteroptera, Coleoptera, Megaloptera, Trichoptera, Diptera), Gastropoda, Bivalvia, u.a.
