Bryophytes: Basic knowledge on morphology, ecology and endangerment of byrophytes; knowledge of abundant species; skills in determination of broyphytes; excursion.Ferns: basic knowledge on life cycle, evolution and population biology of ferns; determination of Swiss ferns; excursion.

Content
Part bryophytes: Systematics and morphology of hornworts, liverworts and mosses and special themes such as ecology, biogeography, diversity and endangerment of bryophytes. Part ferns: Life cycle, systematics of major groups, world-wide diversity, breeding systems, micro-evolution and population biology of ferns and fern allies. Part bryophytes: Day 1: Systemtics of major groups; morphology of hornworts and liverworts; life cycle. Day 2: Ecological characteristics of bryophytes: morphology of mosses. Day 3: Raised bogs and mires; conservation of mires; morphology of the genus Sphagnum Day 4: Full-day excursion: ecology and morphology of bryophytes Day 5: Endangerment; red data book; species preservation strategies; vegetative and sexual reproduction of bryophytes Day 6: Bryophytes and bio-indication; biogeography; biodiversity; Test Part ferns: Day 7: Life cycle; morphology of major groups of club mosses, horsetails and ferns Day 8: Systematics of major groups and world-wide diversity Day 9: Full-day excursion Day 10: Dispersal and reproductive biology of ferns Day 11: Microevolution of ferns Day 12: Populations biology of ferns and test
