Abstract
In this block course, students actively participate in ongoing research projects on plant metabolism and are tutored individually by doctoral students and postdocs. In a lecture series, the theoretical background for the projects and their interrelationship is provided, and in a seminar series, students will present their projects as well as discuss topical recent publications.
Objective
The course provides first "hands on" insight into the process of plant biochemical research, covering all aspects from the planning of experiments to their execution, evaluation and conceptual integration.
Content
Participation in the following projects will be possible: Starch biosynthesis, phosphorylation of starch, degradation of starch and its regulation, glucan metabolism, sugar sensing, maltose metabolism, in vitro mutagenesis and biochemistry of pyridoxalphosphate synthase from bacteria and plants, expression and function of pyridoxalphosphate synthase subunits in plants, protein-protein interaction of plant proteins, polyphosphate metabolism in fungi and algae, characterization of phosphate transporters in the VA mycorrhiza and regulation of their expression.
