Abstract

The course is a general introduction to the theory of seismic wave propagation. It explains the principles and assumptions used in seismology. It provides the tools to solve basic seismological problems.

Objective

The course is a general introduction to the theory of seismic wave propagation.

Content

The course explains the principles and assumptions used in seismology. It provides the tools to solve basic seismological problems. The course includes the theorems in dynamic elasticity, the formulation with potentials, Green’s function, elastic waves from point dislocations sources, moment tensors, 1D, 2D, and 3D wave propagation problems, reflection and transmission at plane boundaries, and surface waves in a vertically heterogeneous medium.
