VVZ CR 4.6

Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:06:13

Abstract

Topics include: Tensors, properties of stress, strain, and rate-of-strain tensors. Conservation laws. Elasticity and viscosity, fluids, plasticity, viscoelasticity. Heat transfer, boundary layers, and dynamical similarity.

Objective

This aim of this course is to give students the fundamental understanding of the physical processes and mathematical description of the deformation of continuous media necessary to study the dynamics of Earth's core, mantle, lithosphere, crust, ocean or atmosphere.
