Content
[course aim] Learning and understanding the continuum mechanics equations that describe the deformation of rocks. Mathematical equations describing rock rheology: elasticity, viscosity, plasticity and their combinations. Applying methods such as dimensional analysis, linear stability analysis and numerical simulations to investigate rock deformation. Programming and using the finite element method. Performing numercial experiments of diapirism, folding, boudinage, shear band formation and coupled fluid flow and deformation.
