Content
This course furthers the study of the technology of building materials - wood, synthetics and alloy metals. Wood: We will deepen our knowledge of solid woods and wooden materials and consider ways and means to promote and sustain long term functionality of wooden buildings. Synthetics: We will further our knowledge of the fundamentals and applicability of synthetics in relation to characteristics of plastics used as sealant, piping, heat insulation and cladding. Metals: the course will address the characteristics and usage of coloured metals, alloys and steel for special applications and it will extend students’ knowledge of corrosion, protection against corrosion, surface treatment and the technology of alloys.
