Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:10:39
Content
This elective describes a methodology for dealing comptently with existing buildings which are often entirely different from that of modern buildings in terms of their construction and functioning. Starting from a guiding notion of sustainability, whose viability is supported by a number of important prerequisites (diagnosis of damages, phenomenological survey of the building, compatibility and possible reversibility of interventions, etc.) as defined by modern historic preservation, this elective course is offered by the professorial chair for historic preservation. In each two-hour session, a different guest lecturer will present to discuss a central area of historical buildings technology. Typical topics include, for example, ‘Window renovation/window replacement’, ‘Dampnessrelated problems’, ‘Constructional inadequacies and their repair’, ‘Eliminating pests in attics’, and many others.
