Abstract

The students will gain insights in the microphysical details of cloud and precipitation formation, as well as the importance of aerosols as cloud condensation and ice nuclei.

Objective

The students will gain insights in the microphysical details of cloud and precipitation formation, as well as the importance of aerosols as cloud condensation and ice nuclei and, thus, for climate.

Content

Microstructure of clouds and precipitation, aerosol activation to form cloud droplets, ice crystal nucleation (homogeneous freezing of supercooled aerosol and heterogeneous freezing), precipitation formation
