Abstract

Basic principles of demand and supply, market and state in a modern economy.Cost analysis, economies of scale and economies of scope.Perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly and monopolistic competition, barriers to entry, market concentration, market power.Natural monopoly, regulation, deregulation, privatisation of public enterprises, technological innovation and investment decision.

Objective

The objective is to learn the basic principles, problems and approaches in microeconomics and industrial organization.

Content

Part 1: Basic principles of demand and supply, market and state in a modern economy. Part 2: Cost analysis, economies of scale and economies of scope. Part 3: Perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly and monopolistic competition, barriers to entry, market concentration, market power. Part 4: Natural monopoly, regulation, deregulation, privatisation of public enterprises, technological innovation and investment decision.
