Abstract

The energy balance of buildings. The fundamental concepts from the second semester are coupled with other energy-related factors, such as insolation, sun shades, the nonstationary behavior of building components, etc. to derive a sensible overall strategy for dealing with energy issues.

Content

Third Semester: The energy balance of buildings. The fundamental concepts from the second semester are coupled with other energy-related factors, such as insolation, sun shades, the nonstationary behavior of building components, etc. to derive a sensible overall strategy for dealing with energy issues. Essential formulae are also taught. The overall integration of factors is applied to selected projects, a process which is aided by applicable software on the caad network. Fourth Semester: The fundamentals for the detailed construction of building elements are introduced. These include the behavior of moisture and the humidity of air, surface condensation, mould growth, transport of moisture in multi-layer elements, tests for condensation and re-drying. In conjunction with a discussion of the thermal quality of the building envelope, rules for the damage-free and durable construction of building elements are presented and elaborated.
