Abstract
The course helps students to develop their competences for reading and writing texts. Examples drawn from environmental issues but also from philosophical texts are used to exercise certain basic rules which help to identify the relations within the text, the relations with the context and with the personal understanding of the topic.
Objective
Students learn how to grasp and report the content of a text as well as how to analyze and interpret texts more in detail.
Content
The course helps students to develop their competences for reading and writing texts. The course provides an introdution into elementary logics for analyzing the structure and validity of deductive arguments, which is crucial not only in science but also in issues of everyday live. Examples drawn from environmental issues but also from philosophical texts are used to exercise certain basic rules which help to identify the relations within the text, the relations with the context and with the personal understanding of the topic. Some typical problems, that can arise and which are due to language as a system of signs, are explained.
