Probabilistic Safety Analysis and Risk Management for Critical Energy Infrastructure

VVZ CR n/a

Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:10:24

Abstract

Framing topical problems, providing knowledge on critical energy infrastructures, introducing advanced models and tools for assessing risk and vulnerability of energy systems with focus on generation technologies. Comprehensive use of advanced modelling techniques, analytical frameworks (PSA) and management concepts for securing their performance and increasing their robustness.

Objective

Developing a basic understanding of coupled critical infrastructures taking complex energy systems as a reference. Learning about concepts of risk and vulnerability analysis as well as respective analytical instruments. Deep understanding of required advanced modelling techniques and software tools with focus on agent based modelling, applying methods to case studies including risk analysis, assessment and management. Optimising systems with regard to robustness and recoverability.

Content

Clarification of key terms, analytical goals and focal points; techniques of system modelling and performance analysis like selected tabular methods (e.g. FMEA), graph methods (fault tree and event tree analysis, Petri nets); treatment of systematic faults and consideration of human factors, modelling of complexity and interdependencies; scenario development, release terms and accident consequence models; representation of results and visualisation; approaches to risk assessment and decision making including required methods and tools; vulnerability and resilience; engineering of robust systems; risk management including emergency planning, emergency control and crisis management; application of the know how to a comprehensive case study.
