Abstract

The most significant Forms as reflected in Music History. Fundamental considerations of the problem of Form. Attention will be paid to older as well as modern music.

Objective

Introduction to basic musical Forms. An in-depth awareness of historical development processes will lead to a better understanding of modern music.

Content

Part 3 of a 3-part course in music: Combined theory of musical Forms and History of music employing numerous examples (study of musical scores). What does form mean? From motif to theme. Sonata form, fugue, vocal forms. A more detailed awareness of historical development will lead to a better understanding of modern music.

Literature

Extraneous publications are not required to follow the lectures. However, a vast array of books on musical Forms and Music History is available at local music stores for further reference.
