Abstract

The goal is to get in-depth understanding of actual problems and research topics in the field of image synthesis and rendering techniques. This course covers the following topics: raytracing, radiosity and global illumination methods, image- and video-based rendering, including lightfields, lumigraphs, image and video cutout techniques and 3D video, as well as non-photorealistic rendering.

Objective

The goal is to gain in-depth understanding of actual problems and research topics in the field of image synthesis and rendering techniques.

Content

This course provides a broad overview of the theory and practice of advanced image synthesis and rendering techniques with a focus on real-time applications such as computer games and interactive virtual worlds, as well as capturing and re-rendering real-world events. The introductory part covers classic and physically-based rendering algorithms, such as raytracing, radiosity and global illumination methods. Most of the course will discuss current techniques and results in image- and video-based rendering, including lightfields, lumigraphs, image and video cutout techniques and three-dimensional video, as well as non-photorealistic rendering.
