Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:10:29
Abstract
The students shall, in small teams, realise a typical lightweight structure. The task includes the design, sizing, and manufacturing a light load-carrying structure complying with the given specifications. The part is finally subjected to stiffness and strength testing in a mechanical testing machine. Results are discussed in a technical meeting.
Objective
Develop the skills to identify and solve typical problems of the structure mechanics. Other important aspects are to: Foster team work and team spirit Link theoretical knowledge and practice Gather practical experiences in various fields related to lightweigt structures such as Design, different CAE-methods and structural testing.
Content
The students shall, as a project for several small groups, design a cantilever wing. The part is a good example for a typical optimized load-carrying structure. This exercise is meant to provide the students with much freedom to follow and realize their own ideas. The specified requirements include only the loads, the support, and a limited budget which must not be exceeded. The task for the students is to design, size, and manufacture a light load-carrying structure complying with the specifications. The part is finally subjected to stiffness and strength measurements in a mechanical testing machine and evaluated within a technical discussion.
