Abstract
Interdisciplinary Excursions in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Agricultural and Food Sciences.
Objective
The aim of the excursions is to rise the awareness for and to increase the understanding of interdis-ciplinary interdependencies between natural conditions (geology, climate), land use and production (food, timber, mineral raw materials, energy etc.), as well as social and economic aspects. In addition, the students are getting a first impression of the fields of occupation for which they are prepared in their study courses
Content
The students visit a variety of different regions in Switzerland and are given an insight into the charac-teristics of these regions from the viewpoints of Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Agricul-tural and Food Sciences. The themes depend on the peculiarities of the region (e.g. land use, tourism, traffic, natural hazards, soil pollution, food production). Experts from inside and outside ETH present farms, food companies and other operations, landscapes and projects and make the students familiar with problems, developments and perspectives of the visited region.
