Abstract
The significance of leys and arable forage crops for roughage production in arable systems is presented. Fundamentals for selection of forage species and their use in grass-clover-mixtures are given. Influence of utilisation and cultural technique is shown. The integration of arable forage crops into the forage production at farm level is discussed.
Objective
Importance of leys for production of roughage. Criteria for the selection of species and for the composition of grass-clover mixtures. Significance of arable forage crops and their integration in soil use systems.
Content
Leys as elements in crop-rotation and their potential for production of high-quality forage. Monocultures and mixtures. Fundamental rules for designing grass-clover-mixtures. Factors of utilisation.
