Abstract
The human dimension of problems is introduced by analizing rural populations forced to cope with the conflict of tradition and progress, specifically by the changing of social relations in rural communities and the changing man-milieu- and city-town-relationship. Main technical terms and questions of rural sociology are introduced as well as methods of social research.

Rural population in the conflict of tradition and progress: changing of social relations and of social factors in rural communities, changing of the man-milieu-relationship, changing of relationship between the country and city. Sociology of agriculture: effects of economical structural change; perception of oneself and of others. Regional imbalances and its social effects. Regional and agrarian politics out of social view. Methods of social research.
