Objective

The goal is to show the most recent developments in the XML field and their interrelations. After visiting this course, students know XML's principles as well as the appropriate usage of XML-related technologies and tools.

Content

In this lecture, we put a special emphasis on XML's data model (in contrast to its syntax) and how it is used by other standards and technologies. Because of this, some subjects (such as XML Infoset and XPath) dealing with this more abstract level of XML are discussed extensively. It is more important to know XML's data model than it is to know XML's syntax, and it is one of the main subjects of this lecture to demonstrate this issue in various application areas of XML.
