Abstract

The course introduces theoretical concepts of Knowledge Management from the perspective of different social sciences: Business administration, Sociology and Psychology. Within the first and second part, a Knowledge Management Toolbox on individual and organisational level will be presented. The participants will get the opportunity to test some of the presented tools.

Objective

The management of knowledge as a resource is considered to be a major source of competitive advantage at the beginning of the 21 st century. The lecture explains which streams of research and which developments in corporate life have led to this ever increasing importance of knowledge as the so-called fourth production factor. The lecture also will discuss the consequences of these developments for the management of the 21 st century organization.

Content

The lecture is building heavily on a constructivist perspective of knowledge: Knowledge is being constructed by people everywhere: on the shop floor as well as in management and everywhere in corporate life. Knowledge as construct emphasis a strong link between the individual explains why the individual is put into the center of the lecture and knowledge management. Opposite to a broad range of literature it is not knowledge management built around IT systems or IT solutions which will be discussed but rather the implications of a human centered knowledge management for the corporation of the 21 st century.
